01 How it works

How to work out gross salary from take-home pay

Income tax is charged on your gross salary, so the gross figure has to cover your take-home pay plus the tax on the whole salary. The calculator finds the gross salary whose take-home, after tax, matches the amount you entered.

For a take-home of Rs 200,000 a month in 2026-27, the gross salary is Rs 216,250. That is Rs 2,595,000 a year, in the 20% slab.

03 Know the terms

Gross salary, net salary and taxable salary

Three figures appear on a Pakistani payslip. Knowing which is which helps when you negotiate an offer.

Gross salary

Your total pay before income tax, including basic salary and taxable allowances. Job offers in Pakistan are usually quoted as gross.

Net salary (take-home pay)

What you receive after your employer deducts income tax each month under section 149. Other deductions, such as provident fund, reduce it further.

Taxable salary

The part of your gross salary that tax is charged on. Exempt items, such as a medical allowance of up to 10% of basic salary when your employer gives no free treatment or reimbursement, are left out. See the full list of exemptions.

Asking for a salary

Questions about gross salary

Quick answers about converting take-home pay to gross salary in Pakistan.

Calculate gross salary

How do I calculate gross salary from net salary in Pakistan?

Find the salary whose take-home pay, after income tax, equals the amount you want. Because tax rises in slabs, this is easiest with a calculator. For example, to take home Rs 200,000 a month in 2026-27 you need a gross salary of about Rs 216,250.

What is the difference between gross and net salary?

Gross salary is your pay before income tax is deducted. Net salary, or take-home pay, is what reaches your bank account after tax. Your employer deducts the tax every month under section 149 of the Income Tax Ordinance.

How much gross salary do I need for Rs 100,000 take-home?

In 2026-27 you need a gross salary of about Rs 100,562 a month to take home Rs 100,000. The tax on that salary is Rs 562 a month.

Is there any tax on a take-home salary of Rs 50,000?

No. Annual taxable salary up to Rs 600,000 (Rs 50,000 a month) is tax-free, so a Rs 50,000 take-home needs a gross salary of Rs 50,000.

Does this include provident fund or EOBI deductions?

No. The calculator only accounts for income tax. If your employer also deducts provident fund, EOBI or other amounts, your bank credit will be lower than the take-home shown here.
