01 How it works

How to compare job offers after tax

Each offer's yearly salary and bonus are added up and taxed with the same FBR salary slabs. The offer that leaves more in your hand over the year is the better-paid one.

The gross gap between two offers always shrinks after tax. Moving from Rs 200,000 to Rs 230,000 a month is Rs 30,000 more gross, but Rs 24,000 more take-home in 2026-27.

02 Bonuses

Higher salary or a bigger bonus?

A bonus is taxed as salary, so compare offers on the full year. Here a lower salary with two months' bonus is set against a higher salary with none.

Offer A: Rs 220,000 + 2 months' bonus

Rs 2,788,000

take-home a year · tax Rs 292,000

Offer B: Rs 250,000, no bonus

Rs 2,724,000

take-home a year · tax Rs 276,000

03 Beyond salary

What else to compare in a job offer

Provident fund and gratuity

An employer's provident fund contribution adds to your savings each month. Ask whether the offer has a provident fund, gratuity or both, and how they are worked out.

Medical cover

Hospital and outpatient cover for you and your family can be worth more than a small salary difference. Check the limits and who is covered.

Tax-free allowances

Some allowances are not taxed. A medical allowance of up to 10% of basic salary is tax-free when your employer provides no free treatment or reimbursement.

Increments and growth

A yearly increment policy changes the picture over a few years. Use the salary increment calculator to see what each raise adds after tax.

Questions about comparing offers

Quick answers about comparing salaries after tax in Pakistan.

Compare two offers

How do I compare two job offers after tax?

Work out the take-home pay of each offer for the whole year, including any bonus, and compare those figures. For example, in 2026-27 a Rs 230,000 offer pays Rs 24,000 a month more after tax than a Rs 200,000 offer, not the full Rs 30,000 gross difference.

Is a bonus taxed in Pakistan?

Yes. A bonus is part of your salary and is taxed at the same slab rates in the tax year it is paid. Adding it to your yearly salary shows the true tax on each offer.

Why is the take-home difference smaller than the salary difference?

The extra salary in the higher offer is taxed at your top slab rate, so part of the difference goes to tax. The higher the salaries, the bigger that share.

What else should I compare besides salary?

Look at provident fund and gratuity, medical cover, guaranteed versus performance bonuses, allowances and annual increments. Some allowances, such as medical allowance of up to 10% of basic salary when no free treatment is given, are tax-free.
