01 How it works
How your increment is taxed
Your raise is added to your salary and the whole salary is taxed at the slab rates. The extra tax is charged only on the part of the salary in each slab, so the raise is taxed at your top slab rate or, if it crosses into a new slab, partly at the next rate.
A 15% increment on Rs 150,000 a month adds Rs 22,500 to your gross pay. After the extra tax of Rs 2,475, your take-home rises by Rs 20,025.

02 Quick reference
How much of a 10% raise you keep in 2026-27
The higher your salary, the more of each raise goes to tax. Up to Rs 50,000 a month you keep all of it.
"You keep" is the share of the extra gross salary that reaches your take-home pay.
| Salary now | 10% raise | Extra take-home | You keep |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rs 60,000 | Rs 6,000 | Rs 5,940 | 99% |
| Rs 100,000 | Rs 10,000 | Rs 8,900 | 89% |
| Rs 150,000 | Rs 15,000 | Rs 13,350 | 89% |
| Rs 200,000 | Rs 20,000 | Rs 16,000 | 80% |
| Rs 300,000 | Rs 30,000 | Rs 22,500 | 75% |
| Rs 500,000 | Rs 50,000 | Rs 34,000 | 68% |
| Rs 800,000 | Rs 80,000 | Rs 52,000 | 65% |
03 Before you accept
Three things to check about a raise
Compare take-home, not gross
A 10% gross raise is less than 10% more in hand once tax is deducted. Use the figure in the "Extra take-home" box.
Check the tax year
Rates change every July. A raise from 1 July is taxed at the new year's slabs, so pick the right tax year above.
Ask how it is paid
An increase in basic salary may also raise provident fund and gratuity. An allowance may not. Ask HR which applies.

Questions about increments
Quick answers about how a salary raise is taxed in Pakistan.
Calculate your incrementHow do I calculate my salary increment after tax?
Work out the tax on your salary before and after the raise; the difference in take-home pay is your real increment. For example, a 15% raise on Rs 150,000 adds Rs 22,500 to your gross salary but Rs 20,025 to your take-home pay in 2026-27.
Will an increment push my whole salary into a higher tax bracket?
No. Pakistan taxes salary in slabs, so a higher rate applies only to the part of your salary inside the higher slab. In 2026-27 a raise never lowers your take-home pay. In 2024-25 and 2025-26 the surcharge on income above Rs 10,000,000 could, for a raise that crossed that line.
How do I calculate an increment percentage?
Divide the increase by your old salary and multiply by 100. A raise from Rs 150,000 to Rs 172,500 is Rs 22,500 ÷ Rs 150,000 × 100 = 15%.
Why is my take-home increase smaller than my raise?
Because the extra salary is taxed at your slab rate. On Rs 150,000 a month the raise falls in the 11% slab in 2026-27, so you keep 89% of it.
Is an annual increment taxed differently from salary?
No. An increment is part of your salary, so it is taxed at the same salary slabs. A one-off bonus is also taxed as salary in the year it is paid.
