Questions about cash withdrawal tax

Short answers about section 231AB.

Calculate the tax

What is the tax on cash withdrawal in Pakistan in 2026-27?

Non-filers pay 0.8% of the total cash they withdraw in a day if it is more than Rs 50,000. Filers on the Active Taxpayer List pay nothing.

Is the tax on the whole amount or only above Rs 50,000?

On the whole day's total. Withdrawing Rs 60,000 in a day costs a non-filer Rs 480, not 0.8% of Rs 10,000.

Do filers pay tax on cash withdrawal?

No. The tax under section 231AB applies only to people who are not on the Active Taxpayer List.

Does withdrawing Rs 50,000 exactly attract tax?

No. The tax applies only when the day's cash withdrawals exceed Rs 50,000.

Can I get the cash withdrawal tax back?

It is advance tax, so you can adjust it against your income tax if you file a return. Filing also puts you on the ATL, which stops the tax.
