How to verify an NTN online

Works for individuals, AOPs and companies, without logging in.

  1. Open Taxpayer Profile Inquiry

Go to e.fbr.gov.pk and choose the taxpayer profile (NTN) inquiry, or use the verification menu in the Tax Asaan app.

  2. Enter the number

Choose CNIC for a person or NTN for a business, and type the number without dashes.

  3. Read the result

A match shows the registered name and details. "No record found" means the number isn't registered, or was mistyped.

02 NTN or filer?

NTN and filer status are different

NTN (registration)

You're registered with FBR. For individuals it's your CNIC; businesses get a 7-digit number. Registering on IRIS is free.

Filer (Active Taxpayer List)

You filed your return for the latest tax year. This is what lowers tax at source on bank profit, cash withdrawals, vehicles and property. Check by SMS to 9966.

What is my NTN number?

For an individual registered with FBR, the 13-digit CNIC number works as the NTN (National Tax Number). Companies and AOPs get a 7-digit NTN when they register.

How do I verify an NTN online?

Use the Taxpayer Profile Inquiry on FBR's e-services site (e.fbr.gov.pk): choose CNIC or NTN, enter the number without dashes and complete the check. You can also verify in the Tax Asaan app.

How do I get an NTN?

Register on FBR's IRIS portal with your CNIC, a mobile number and an email in your name. Once registered, your CNIC is your tax number. It is free.

Is having an NTN the same as being a filer?

No. An NTN only means you are registered. You become a filer (on the Active Taxpayer List) by filing your income tax return for the latest year.

Profile inquiry says "no record found". What does that mean?

That CNIC or NTN is not registered with FBR, or the number was typed wrongly. Check the digits, and register on IRIS if needed.
